Summer 2010 finds us flush with new talent. In addition to our established group of artists, Edward Montgomery Fine Art is privileged to present to our collectors a fresh selection of artwork from three exceptionally talented artists, all new to our roster; Patti CLIFFTON, Nava MENTKOW, and Kathy O’LEARY.

Patti CLIFFTON, from Southern California, paints still lives and seascapes with a delicate touch. Reminiscent of Renoir but with a contemporary flair, her paintings soothe the eye while commanding attention with their subtle use of vibrant color and light. A member of the California Art Club and Oil Painters of America, Patti CLIFFTON’s work has found it’s way into countless collections throughout the country.

Nava MENTKOW works in the present but draws heavily on the past in terms of her approach to painting. The results are rich with classical and modern influence. Hints of cubism and Picasso’s blue period percolate to the surface of MENTKOW’s pictures, yet the lasting impression on the viewer is one of unique originality. Recently earning her Bachelor of Arts Degree at the University of Pennsylvania and her certification by the Pennsylvania Academy Of Fine Arts, this young painter is one to take note of now.

Kathy O'LEARY is an artist most at home in “Plein Air”. She concentrates on California landscapes from the coast to the mountains and prefers to capture the scenes in person, directly from her eyes to the canvas. Setting up her easel “on site” is the best way for her to convey to the viewer the moments and visions that Kathy chooses to preserve. As she explains; “There my work comes as a response to my total environment as I paint the scene, the bird and insect sounds, the smell of the plants and the earth, the feel of the wind.” O’LEARY’s paintings have the ability to transport the viewer and enables us to not only see what she saw, but to feel it too.

The legend of "Captain Kenny" is alive and well on the island of Maui and continues to spread across the mainland. Known in the Hawaiian Islands as the "Picasso of the Pacific", Kenneth Roland NEIZMAN ("Captain Kenny") who passed away in 2003 at the age of 71, is considered amongst art aficionados as Hawaii's own "Primitive Master". Entirely unaffected and in no way influenced by any art movement, trend, or style of the 20th century, Captain Kenny produced a steady stream of completely original artwork over his lifetime that embodied and illustrated the colorful and whimsical spirit from which it was born. 2009 marked the re-launch of his only limited edition serigraph, "The Aloha Fish", pictured to the left. Published in 1986 and issued in a small edition of only 200 hand pulled, plate and hand-signed examples, "The Aloha Fish" was withdrawn from sale after 60 examples had been sold, in 1988. This important work of art represents the most enduring legacy to the off-beat genius that was Captain Kenny. Edward Montgomery Fine Art has the distinction of being NEIZMAN's sole authorized publisher and curator. The Gallery will also begin this year to make available for purchase select offerings from it's extensive collection of Captain Kenny original paintings and drawings. We urge you to read this artist's biography here on our website and encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity to own one or more of Captain Kenny's extremely rare and unique works of art.
